Life With Father
Since my Dad is originally from the Midwest, he "remembers" how cold it gets in the winters here.
Except that:
A) He grew up in southern Nebraska
B) He left Nebraska at 15, which was, no joke, over 50 years ago
C) Is now basking on the deck in 72 degree sunshine reading his Bible.
The main downfall to the heater not working in my car (other than frostbite and freezing) is that the defrost also does not work. So, it's not just difficult to de-the-frost on my windshield before setting off to school, it's nearly impossible. Those nifty heated side mirrors though, those are working hard.
Good.
"Throw a blanket in the car, Christi. It will warm up soon."
Right. Thanks, Dad.
What a dose of sunshine and cheer that ol' retired mechanic has brought into my life today.

It is amazing how easily people forget. I spent almost my entire life in Michigan, so I "remember" how cold it gets too... however, these mornings lately that have dipped under the 40 degree mark have made me wonder what I'm in store for. Two years in Kansas City, with very mild winters, has ill-prepared me.
However, I did learn a trick in Missouri that I thought I'd pass on: place a trash bag, or some other kind of thick plastic material, over your windshield. It will cling to your windshield, and then in the morning you can peel it off... and won't have any frost on it! Yay. At least it worked when we had ice storms.
Of course, as for the heater... do they sell space heaters that will plug into a cigarette lighter?
Here's one (uses batteries)
Probably if you scoped out Gander Mountain, or Cabellas, or Scheel's Sporting Goods... you could find one. :)
